BACP Accredited — Central London & Online UK

Addiction Therapist London

I'm Richard Lee, a BACP Accredited addiction therapist based in Fitzrovia, Central London. With experience at Priory and Nightingale Hospitals and specialist Post-Induction Therapy (PIT) training, I help clients break free from alcohol, drug, and behavioural addictions — not just by stopping the behaviour, but by understanding and healing what drives it.

Whether you're struggling with alcohol, cocaine, ketamine, prescription drugs, or compulsive behaviours like gambling or sex addiction — I offer specialist addiction counselling in a confidential, non-judgmental space.

In-person sessions in Fitzrovia (W1W) and Bromley (BR1), plus online therapy across the UK.

How I Work

Addiction Therapy That Goes Beyond the Surface

Most addiction therapy focuses on stopping the behaviour. My approach goes deeper — helping you understand what drives the addiction, heal the underlying wounds, and build a life where substances no longer feel necessary.

1. Understand the Pattern

We explore when the addiction started, what function it serves, and what triggers the compulsive behaviour. This isn't about blame — it's about understanding the roots.

2. Heal the Underlying Wounds

Using Post-Induction Therapy (PIT), we address the developmental trauma, shame, and relational patterns that often drive addiction. This is where real, lasting change happens.

3. Build a New Way Forward

Together we develop healthier coping strategies, stronger boundaries, and a more resilient sense of self — so you're not just surviving without substances, but genuinely thriving.

Why PIT?

Post-Induction Therapy for Addiction

Post-Induction Therapy (PIT) is a therapeutic model developed by Pia Mellody specifically for treating the developmental trauma that underlies most addictions. Unlike approaches that focus solely on behaviour change, PIT addresses the five core issues at the root of addiction:

  • Self-Esteem: Moving from shame to self-worth
  • Boundaries: Learning to protect and express yourself
  • Reality: Knowing and owning your own experience
  • Dependency: Meeting your needs in healthy ways
  • Moderation: Living in balance, not extremes

Is This Approach Right for You?

My approach may be a good fit if:

  • You've tried to stop before but keep going back
  • You sense your addiction is connected to past experiences
  • Shame or low self-worth feels like a constant companion
  • Your relationships are affected by addictive patterns
  • You want more than just abstinence — you want to understand why
